How to Size Makeup Brush Compartments

Brush storage should be sized from a real brush set and tested after the bag is closed, carried and reopened—not drawn as evenly spaced loops by appearance alone.

Start with the intended use

A practical compartment protects brush heads, limits residue transfer and keeps tools accessible without creating excess bulk. The correct layout depends on the target brush set and the surrounding cosmetics.

01

Build a brush-size schedule

List the total length, maximum handle diameter and head width for every intended brush. Identify the largest and smallest tools rather than designing around an average.

Mark which brushes need individual loops, shared sleeves or a larger pocket. Include any caps or travel covers used in the retail set.

02

Set loop spacing and retention

Elastic width, stretch and stitch spacing work together. Loops that are too tight can be difficult to use; loose loops allow brushes to move or fall out.

Review the layout with the exact or representative brushes inserted. Check removal with one hand and repeated use, not only the empty appearance.

03

Protect brush heads and nearby products

Provide enough cover depth so bristles are not crushed when the bag closes. A flap, sleeve or transparent barrier can help separate powder residue from bottles and palettes.

Check that zippers, dividers and closures do not press against brush heads after the bag is fully packed.

04

Validate the loaded bag

Close, carry and reopen the finished sample with all intended items in place. Inspect retention, bristle contact, residue transfer, zipper movement and overall thickness.

Record compartment dimensions, loop positions, elastic specification and the approved brush-size schedule for production control.

BUYER FAQ

Questions to settle before sampling.

How many brush loops should a makeup bag have?

There is no universal number. Use the target brush set, bag size and desired product position to define the layout during sampling.

Should every brush use the same loop width?

Not necessarily. Mixed loop spacing or a combination of loops and sleeves can fit different handles more reliably.

What information should buyers send?

Provide brush dimensions or physical samples, the full packed product list, preferred access direction, cleaning requirements and the intended retail presentation.
